Hideaway
Hideaway
1997, oil on modified canvas with 3-dimensional stretcher and velvet frame, 48 x 48 inches

I imagined climbing up this tree where I could see all around, but no one could see me. I wanted the tree to have a physical presence which would intrude on the viewer's space, beckoning them to climb up. To achieve this effect, the stretcher is built up in back so that I could attach real wooden rungs to the front of the tree.
